The 2017 Summer School on Atmospheric Environment and Public Health

Background and Objectives
 
The North Carolina State University (NC State), Raleigh, U.S.A. and Hebei University of Engineering, Handan, China are organizing the Summer School on Atmospheric Environment and Public Health in Handan, China during August 21-24, 2017. The summer school aims to bring together highly-recognized experts, graduate students, young scientists and engineers, and junior faculty members to discuss current status and major challenges on combating ambient airpollution and associated public health effects in China, U.S., and worldwide, and to boost participantsí learning of fundamentals and advanced topics of airpollution engineering and sciences as well as public health sciences through aseries of lectures, field trips, and round-table discussions. The invited speakers include an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, professors from well-known universities in China and U.S., and researchers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Resources for the Future, a nonprofit think tank, in Washington, DC, U.S.A. The summer school will provide a great opportunity for knowledge transfer, interactions, and networking among all participants. It will feature one keynote speech and a total of sixteen lectures under four themes: (1) Air Quality Monitoring and Measurements (2) Air Quality Modeling and Forecasting (3) Air Pollution Control Strategies and Policy Analysis (4) Health Effects of Air Pollution The field trip will include visit to the monitoring stations in Hebei University of Engineering and the Hebei Provincial Haze Laboratory. The language for the summer school will be English.
