Collaborative Research
between the National Weather Service and North Carolina State University
In recent years, collaborative research
with North Carolina State University has expanded to include other
National Weather Service Forecast Offices including those located
at Greenville-Spartanburg and Columbia South Carolina, Wilmington
and Newport North Carolina, along with Blacksburg and Wakefield
Virginia.
The purpose of this collaboration page is to share applied research
findings and training materials on forecast topics important to
the Southeastern and Mid Atlantic regions of the country. Recognizing
that the infusion of science into forecast operations is a collaborative
process requiring time and revisions, we do not limit the posting
of materials to completed works. Rather “preliminary drafts”
are posted seeking ideas and comments from other operational forecasters.
It is our desire to work together toward producing training materials
which can provide a means to add value beyond current operational
forecast practices.
We invite you to be a part of this science infusion collaborative
process by sending your comments to Dr
Gary Lackmann or Jonathan
Blaes.
