MEA 714: Atmospheric Convection

What is covered in this course:   The dynamics, microphysics, theory, observations, and modeling of: laboratory and real-world thermals and plumes; drizzling stratocumuli; cumuli; cumulonimbi; severe convective storms; mesoscale convective systems; orogenic convection and precipitation; and, tropical convection.

Course announcements

8/13: We will do some thinking and learning on the first day of class, so please show up prepared.
8/13: Students should be aware that they will need to pay for the cost of printing a poster for the class project, near the end of the semester. Approximate cost will be $20-30 per student.
8/18: Introductory readings for the first class are now available (links below). Students should read section 1.1 of Doswell's Ch. 1 as well as Yuter's radar article from Encyc. Atmos. Sci. before our first class meeting, if possible.
