
Membership is free and automatic for all MEAS graduate students! Or rather your membership dues areincluded along with all those fees you pay each semester. I guess they just figure you'd appreciate the opportunity to network and to occassionally get out of the lab. So, since you're already signed up, get involved!!! Come to our meetingsand provide input on important issues such as the allocation of grad student office space. Volunteer to organize an intramural team, plan a social event, or manage this web site. Or just hang-out over a beer on Friday evenings.
The objectives of this organization shall be (1) To represent the graduate students of this department in any and all matters which may affect the welfare of the students; (2) To disseminate information of interest or importance to the students; and (3) To provide a forum for discussion of problems and other matters of importance to the students in Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.

Geoff Bell - President
I am a PhD student in the Marine science discipline studying the behavioral and physiological responses of blue crabs to episodic hypoxic events. I hope that my research will help to understand the physiological basis for their behavior and determine the impact of hypoxia on depleted blue crab populations. As President of GSA I am in charge of representing YOU!!!

Brandon Puckett - President
I was born and raised in North Carolina and attended NCSU as an undergraduate. I conducted my M.S. research at Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (U. of MD) on age, growth, and recruitment of juvenile blue crabs. Currently, I am a pH.D. student in Marine Science investigating metapopulation dynamics of eastern oyster sanctuaries in the Pamlico Sound. As the vice president of the GSA, I am responsible for organizing departmental intramural sports teams, coordinating block seating and tailgating for football games, and representing GSA in the president's absence.

I am M.S. candidate in Atmospheric science studying the atmosphere on Mars. My research looks at how flow veries over different types of martian topography. As treasurer, I am responsible for our GSA funds and making sure they are put to good use (departmental picnics and other gatherings). Please feel free to e-mail me.

I am working on my M.S. degree in Marine Science. My current research evaluates the impact of introduced beaver and trout on native fish in Tierra del Fuego, Chile. I am working on my M.S. degree in atmospheric science. My research focuses on the climatology of hurricanes and seasonal forecasting of hurricanes. As the University GSA representative, it is my job to take our departmental concerns and ideas to the university level. I will also be passing along any important information from the university meetings that may be of impact to us.
