TEACHING AND RESEARCH AREAS

My primary goal is the preservation of our estuaries and coastal waters through a combination of research and education. The health of these systems is strongly affected by transport of water, salt, nutrients, and planktonic larvae. I have conducted physical oceanographic research in several coastal regions, using a wide variety of observational and theoretical methods. My career is moving more into interdisciplinary research with marine biologists and ecologists, and I've been called an honorary biologist. Education and outreach are also very important to me, because environmental preservation can only be achieved by informed and involved citizens.
