Late Schedule Revision Policy
for Undergraduate Students Majoring in PAMS
Fall and Spring
At North Carolina State University, a deadline is imposed on
student schedule modifications at six weeks for fall/spring semesters.
After this deadline, the student is officially enrolled in the course
and seeking a letter grade (or credit only). As such,
dropping specific courses (or changing to CR or AU) after this deadline
is considered only for unforeseen and unavoidable extenuating
personal situations. Here are examples of reasons that are not valid
for dropping a course (or changing to CR or AU) after the deadline.
- I am doing poorly in the course.
- I do not like the way the course is being taught.
- I have discovered the course is not needed for my degree.
- I want to protect my GPA.
- I didnt know I was registered for the course.
- I was not prepared for the course.
Usually, if your reason is one of the above (or similar), then your
request for a schedule modification will not be granted. However,
if you believe that you do have a valid reason and would like to petition
for a course drop (or change to CR or AU) after the deadline you should
use the steps outlined in Section II.
I. ADD/DROP/CREDIT ONLY/AUDIT DEADLINE INFORMATION
- Add Deadline for all level courses: End of the first
two weeks of the semester.
- Drop/Credit Only/Audit Deadline for 100-400 level courses:
End of the first six weeks of the semester.
- Drop/Credit Only/Audit Deadline for 500-600 level courses:
Up to one week after midsemester.
During the drop/add/credit only/audit periods listed above, use the
procedures outlined in the TRACS booklet.
Note however that during the third through sixth weeks of the semester,
students who wish to drop below the 12-hour minimum course load or
add courses above the 21-hour maximum course load must secure approval
from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in PAMS. Students
should be aware that dropping below 12 hours may affect financial
aid or eligibility for on-campus housing.
The above deadlines are described generally. Please consult
the University Academic Calendar for actual dates within any given
semester.
II. LATE SCHEDULE REVISION POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Students wishing to drop all of their classes should refer to Section
III.
Late drops are limited to the reasons listed below and a request for
a late schedule revision must be accompanied by the following documentation.
- Medical reasons; with supporting statements of recommendation
from physician, clinic, hospital, etc. or with recommendation
from counselors at the NCSU Counseling Center (2815 Cates Avenue).
- Emotional problems or crisis situation; with statements of recommendation
from counselors at the NCSU Counseling Center (2815 Cates Avenue)
or from a private counselor.
- Personal or family hardship supported with documentation that
the hardship occurred after the normal drop deadline. If your
request is due to financial hardship and you are employed, obtain
a note from your employer indicating where you work, when you
began your employment and the number of hours you work each week.
PROCEDURES FOR ADD/DROP/AUDIT/CREDIT ONLY CHANGES
- Obtain a Schedule Revision Form and a Late Schedule Revision
Form from your department or from the PAMS Office of Academic
Affairs (106 Cox Hall).
- Complete Section 1 on the Late Schedule Revision Form and write
a statement on that form detailing the reasons for your request.
Complete Section 1 on the Schedule Revision Form as well.
- Meet with the instructor of your course. Ask your instructor
to complete Section 2 on back of the Late Schedule Revision Form.
- Meet with your faculty advisor. Be sure to have your documentation
with you. Ask your advisor to complete Section 3 on back of the
Late Schedule Revision Form.
- Meet with the Undergraduate Coordinator of the department. Be
sure to have your documentation with you. Ask the Coordinator
to complete Section 4 on the back of the Late Schedule Revision
Form.
- Section 2 of the Schedule Revision Form must be completed by
the department offering the course. The main office of that department
will direct you to the appropriate person.
- Take your Schedule Revision Form, the Late Schedule Revision
Form (with both sides completed), and documentation
materials to the PAMS Office of Academic Affairs (106 Cox).
- Your request will be reviewed. (You may be asked to go to the
Counseling Center for further documentation.)
- If approved, you must submit the Schedule Revision
Form to Registration and Records, 1000 Harris Hall. The Deans
office will keep the Late Schedule Revision Form.
NOTE: Similar procedures exist during summer sessions.
III. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY
- All withdrawals from the University are initiated through the
NCSU Counseling Center in 2815 Cates Avenue.
- Call the Counseling Center at 515-2423 and make an appointment
to see a counselor.

- Medical reasons

and Mathematical Sciences.
